Advantages and disadvantages of nitrile rubber

‌Nitrile rubber (NBR) has the following advantages and disadvantages:

Advantages

‌Excellent oil resistance: Nitrile rubber has excellent resistance to a variety of oils and is an ideal material for making oil-resistant rubber products. ‌

‌High wear resistance: Its wear resistance is better than many other rubber materials and is suitable for applications that require high wear resistance. ‌

‌Good heat resistance: Nitrile rubber can still maintain good performance at high temperatures and is suitable for environments that require high temperature resistance.

‌Strong adhesion: It has good adhesion and is suitable for bonding a variety of substrates. ‌

‌Good air tightness: Due to its tight molecular structure and low air permeability, it is suitable for occasions that require air tightness. ‌

‌Excellent antistatic performance: Nitrile rubber has good antistatic performance and is suitable for environments that require antistatic. ‌

Disadvantages

‌Slightly lower elasticity: Compared with natural rubber, nitrile rubber has slightly lower elasticity.

‌Poor low temperature resistance: The performance will be affected in low temperature environments and is not suitable for use in cold environments. ‌

‌Poor ozone resistance‌: It has weak resistance to ozone and is not suitable for environments with high ozone concentrations.

‌Poor insulation performance‌: The insulation performance of nitrile rubber is not as good as some other materials and is not suitable for occasions that require high insulation.

‌General low-temperature flexibility‌: It has poor flexibility at low temperatures and is prone to hardening and brittle cracking.

Application areas

Due to the above advantages, nitrile rubber is widely used in the manufacture of oil-resistant rubber products, seals, transmission belts, hoses, printing and dyeing rubber rollers, cable rubber materials, etc. It plays an important role in the automotive, aviation, petroleum, and copying industries. ‌
